We had a fantastic day at the Saffron Walden County High School Careers Fair this week, where we had the opportunity to meet some of the brightest and most enthusiastic Year 12 students in the area. It was a pleasure to talk to so many young people interested in learning more about careers in architecture and surveying and to share our passion for the built environment.

Sharing Our Expertise

As a long-established, multi-disciplinary practice, Wilby & Burnett is proud to provide a complete range of architectural and surveying services across the East of England. At the careers fair, we were able to share insights into the diverse and exciting world of architecture and surveying, explaining what we do on a day-to-day basis and the important role our work plays in shaping the built environment.

We spoke with students about the wide range of skills required in our industry, from creative design and technical drawing to project management and problem-solving. We explained the importance of both traditional and modern building methods and the critical role of sustainability in today’s architectural landscape. It was encouraging to see so many students genuinely interested in these topics and eager to learn more about the career paths available to them.

Inspiring Future Architects and Surveyors

One of the highlights of the day was discussing the various routes into the profession. We explained the qualifications and training required to become a chartered architect or chartered surveyor, including degree courses, apprenticeships, and professional accreditation through bodies like the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). We also shared some of our own experiences and career journeys, providing real-world examples of the opportunities and challenges our team members have faced.

It was inspiring to see so many young people with a genuine interest in pursuing a career in architecture or surveying, and we hope that our conversations have helped to spark their interest even further. We believe that the future of our industry depends on nurturing the next generation of talented architects and surveyors, and events like the Saffron Walden County High School Careers Fair play an important role in achieving this.

A Big Thank You

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Saffron Walden County High School for organising this fantastic event and to all the students who took the time to visit our booth and learn about Wilby & Burnett. We hope that our conversations have inspired some of you to explore the exciting world of architecture and surveying further.

I joined Wilby & Burnett in 2014. I enjoy watching films & live music, when I get the chance! Otherwise, running around after my lively daughters takes up my time.
